!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and had a fairly extensive wing/engine fire. Everyone got off, but reading the article it sounds like they did not blow the pilot side slides, which seems odd.

that looks concerning, hoping that everyone made it out just fine
EDIT: after reading the article, i'm really glad that everyone made it out fine, kudos to singapore airlines, the ground crew and emergency responders for making sure everyone got out safely

that is one scary sight to see on a plane, seeing flames bursting from the wings and smelling smoke and jet fuel

Yeah, except you should be smart enough to know that’s not how cameras work. Had she turned it, she wouldn’t have gotten a nice perfectly framed plane, she would have just had useless space on the sides instead:
Probably still an improvement, but your image is as disingenuous as mine is terrible, at least for someone who can’t move closer and doesn’t have a lens capable of zooming.

If it’s not Boeing, I’m not go.....
Oh, wait.
So they left the passengers on the plane while they fought the fire? That seems odd indeed.

I’ll say there are cases where a portrait oriented composition makes more sense than a landscape one. This is not one of those cases, but I dislike the portrait is always wrong arguments, and find it especially troubling when they are made by showing an imaginary shot that the camera is not physically capable of taking (except via “digital zoom”, which would be the same effect as cropping the portrait video).

The only time portrait video is acceptabe is when it’s viewed on a mobile device. “Take all the portrait video you want,” I say.
Just make sure it never leaves your phone, and no one gets hurt.

If you fling poo at a fire, does that help put it out?

That was the 747. Unless you believe that the Navy shot down TWA 800.

I can’t believe they didn’t evacuate. I’m a flight attendant for one of the legacy carriers. Even if the captain said do not evacuate, this is a definite no doubt, get out situation.
I wonder what the flight crew was saying to the passengers to keep them calm and in their seats. Here in the U.S., with that much fire visible from inside the cabin, the passengers would have initiated their own evacuation.

I also work for one of the legacy carriers. I’m not in in-flight though. If this was just a tail pipe fire then that would be one thing. I’d still probably evacuate. With there being signs of fire all the way out and around the flaps and slats, well, that alarms me and I would getting out in a hurry. The aircraft have nitrogen innerting systems now, but that will only buy you so much time.

If you have time go down to F concourse and grab a frosted orange from the Varsity. It is quieter down there do are to other terminals and they sometimes have live music. There is a Moe’s in D (I think) if you are looking for a good burrito. The place is huge, it will be crowded, but enjoy the people watching.

The last time I was at ATL, I was telling the lady at Chick-Fil-A that I also worked at a Chick-Fil-A in Raleigh, NC and she didn’t know where Raleigh was so yeah I’m ready to party.
